17th C. Table Globe

Back then only royalty and very affluent citizens were able to afford globes of this kind. Mounted on an elaborate wood stand with turned supports and ball feet. Complete with printed horizon ring and functioning dry compass and bronze meridian circle. The globe is handmade of twelve delicately colored gores, with polar calottes and the oceans decorated with sailing ships. The original map used for the terrestrial globe was drawn by Gerardus Mercator in 1541 and were revolutionary in that age and time.
