Memories of summers on the lake

It was August 2003 and Vanity Fair did a spread on George Clooney, racing his Riva across the Lago di Como. Reminds me of the late 50s when my friends and I skipped class to see Hollywood movies with the likes of Doris Day, Jaguar XK120s ruled the roads. Chris Crafts ruled the waves… Brigitte Bardot was the next movie star, and upon reaching 16, I hitchhiked down to St. Tropez to try and see her skimming the Cote d’Azur in a chrome and mahogany Riva. The dormitory conversation at the YMCA in Cannes oscillated between aspects of Brigitte’s bathing suit, and the horsepower of the dual 8-cylinder engines growling in the belly of the Riva’s gleaming hull.  Life was good then and it never seemed to rain.
